  • MEX note: What will designers do with 1280 x 720 pixels, arranged on a 4.65 inch super AMOLED, at a density of 316 pixels per inch? Samsung’s latest Android handset has been launched in South Korea just as the company celebrates the shipment of its 10 millionth Galaxy S II. The new HD screen edition is limited to the domestic market for the time being, but make no mistake: smartphones with this kind of screen resolution will be arriving worldwide over the next 12 to 18 months. The clarity with which images and text can be display on such devices presents new opportunities for designers, while the miniscule size at which non-optimised screen elements may be accidently rendered is a challenge for all to avoid. The new resolution opens up a new class of experiences.
