Programme for the next MEX

MEX: Pathways to the mobile UX horizon

The next MEX is on 19th & 20th September 2012 in London.

MEX shapes the future of mobile user experience by bringing together 100 speakers, facilitators and participants to work collaboratively on 6 MEX Pathways:

  • Context – how do data from new sensors and behavioural patterns drive contextually responsive design?
  • Speed – what makes digital experiences seem fast?
  • Sensation – how do tactility and sound take interactions beyond a purely visual experience?
  • Clarity – what new experiences are enabled by the increasing resolution of digital displays?
  • Diffusion – how do multiple digital touchpoints combine to create a diffuse experience greater than the sum of its parts?
  • Concurrency – how does simultaneous, multi-person usage of the same device change interface design?

Today I’m publishing the initial set of provocations for each Pathway and extending an open invitation for the MEX community to discuss further.

The Pathways are a complete process, encompassing pre-event research & stimuli, speaker presentations, team working sessions and a post-event summary of videos, notes & sketches.

Speakers & facilitators

I’ve spent 9 months since the last MEX traveling the world to find the most inspiring speakers & facilitators. I’m delighted to announce the first of them today, including:

  • Dale Herigstad – 4-time Emmy Award-winning Chief Interaction Officer of Possible Worldwide

  • Colm Healy – a founder of context aware computing pioneer Xiam and now Vice President at Qualcomm

  • Sam Livingstone and Joe Simpson – directors of Car Design Research and lecturers in automotive design at the Royal College of Art

  • See the full list of speakers announced so far and why I chose them

What to expect & how to get involved

I’ve designed the 11th international edition of MEX as a place where all participants work together to create new ideas, inspired by our pre-event research and expert contributors. As ever with MEX, expect learning from outside the confines of the technology industry, diverse attendance and ongoing access to our community of user experience pioneers.

There are still opportunities for scholarships, speakers and sponsors. MEX thrives on participation, get in touch if you’d like to get involved.
