Nominees announced for 2010 MEX Mobile User Experience Awards
> 42 entries, 11 nominees, 5 categories – a single vision for user-centred design |
We’re excited to announce the nominees for the 2010 MEX User Experience Awards, hosted at the MEX Conference on 19th May. They are listed below in the 5 categories, with links to the entry videos and graphics, as well as profiles for the judges and information on the criteria used.
The MEX Awards is all about the importance of user-centred design in mobile. Now in its 3rd year, the Awards has received international TV coverage from Reuters and TelecomTV, providing a showcase for former winners such as the Blind Phone (2008) and Digitag (2009).
This year has seen 42 entries from all over the world, with students, freelancers and companies competing to demonstrate the cutting edge of mobile user experience innovation. Entries closed on 30th April and, since then, our 5 judges have been working overtime to decide the short-list nominees, who will be invited to attend the MEX Awards in London.
The Awards is hosted on the 1st night of the 7th international MEX Conference, when the overall winners will be announced. MEX brings together 100 of the deepest thinkers in mobile, media and design for 2 days of learning, debate and networking. The evening Awards reception is the social highlight of the event and will this year be themed around a summer BBQ.
Our thanks to Immersion (Silver Sponsor) and DCKTN (Innovation Sponsor) for supporting the MEX Awards.

The judging criteria
These are the criteria the judges used in their deliberations:
- Has the designer genuinely understood and empathised with the needs of the target users?
- How well are these needs reflected in the user experience?
- Does the entry represent a different way of thinking or include an original innovation?
- Could the entry be highlighted as a best practice example to inspire user experience improvements in the industry?
Extra credit will also be awarded if designers create a multi-platform experience, where several digital touchpoints (e.g. mobile phone + TV + PC) combine to make an overall experience greater than the sum of its parts.
