The user We have designed motionized(tm) for a mobile user who - is consuming more and more content on his handset - is in need for more and more intuitive ways to dive into / outside of content - wants to keep some thumb energy for typing messages not for managing UI clutter - is taking pictures with hi multimegapixel handset but would actually like to see if they are good looking - is using maps and would use them even more if there were a easy intuitive way to zoom in/out and to pan into them - listens to more and more music and therefore needs to navigate in longer and longer lists - has no time to invest in new navigation tips tricks and shortcuts and therefore tends to test/use only features that provide an immediate and tangible benefit Having factory shipped several applications onto more than 50 million handsets over the past 2 years we tend to think that our target user is probably not alone of his kind and actually describes a fairly generic set of mobile customer expectations. The experience Motionized(tm) has been designed from the ground up as an software only motion detection library, enabling full new UI implementations, freeing the user from the 40:1 ratio that exists between the mobile content he manipulates, and the screen real estate available to display such content. By using the movement of the handset to enable users to browse menus, pan and zoom within images, navigate web pages or play games, the Motionized handset introduces a breakthrough in user experience. On Motionized phones, any application can benefit from the new UI revolution: View

Cool idea but one has to ask the inevitable … What about battery life using the camera all the time?

Tom,
It is Philippe from Realeyes3D. The question you raise is perfectly relevant : we address it by activating motion detection only at the user’s request, when he depresses a key.
As a result, we allow the UI to “freeze” where the user is interested, and limit access to the camera preview (and therefore battery consumption) to the minimum. This way the camera is effectively used only when needed.
Early versions of motionized™ have been implemented and deployed in several handsets with no battery life issue reported so far.
I hope this answers your - very valid - question.
Regards,
Philippe DEWOST
