Glassless 3D on the iPhone

The Engineering Human Computer Interaction (EHCI) group at the Grenoble Informatics Laboratory (LIG) in France has developed a system for creating 3D effects on the iPhone without the need for special glasses. The team used the front facing camera to track head movement and adjust an off-axis projection, giving the illusion of visual depth in the interface.

The system is currently a lab demo, so unfortunately you can try it out for yourself on the App Store yet.

MEX will be exploring this subject further in Pathway #4 on 4th/5th May 2011 in London, entitled: ‘Identify ways 3D input and output enrich the user experience‘.
