Meet the speakers: Bill Schwebel, Senior Vice President, AOL Wireless & President, Tegic Communications

Bill Schwebel, President of Tegic Communications and Senior Vice President of AOL WirelessBill Schwebel, President of Tegic Communications and Senior Vice President of AOL Wireless, will deliver a keynote presentation at the MEX conference on 2nd/3rd May 2007. Schwebel, whose career spans senior roles with AOL, Time Warner, Uptown Services and US West, will speak in response to point 2 of the MEX manifesto:

“2. Tearing down the walled garden will enhance the mobile content experience and release value for the industry. The objective should be a free market for content and applications, based on open standards and accessible to all. We think the current fragmentation of formats and channels to market is holding back growth. ”

As the head of both AOL’s mobile software business and its B2B wireless unit, Schwebel brings a unique perspective on the technical and strategic challenges of building an eco-system for mobile services. Speaking about the direction he will take with his MEX presentation, Schwebel told us: “It is important to let the carrier understand that they ‘own’ the customer but that unless they can ‘manage’ the customer’s expectations and needs, they are not going to get much out of this ownership.”

Tegic and AOL are also supporting the MEX conference as sponsors.

“For Tegic, success hinges on delivering simple, intuitive and flexible mobile experiences to consumers. MEX is the ideal forum for discussing how to better enhance the mobile usability with key industry leaders and experts,” said Schwebel.

Tegic Communications is best known for its T9 predictive input technology, which has shipped on more than 2 billion mobile phones and revolutionised text messaging.

Schwebel joins a wide range of industry leaders who will respond to the MEX manifesto at the conference. Others already announced include Cliff Crosbie, Global Director of Retail Marketing at Nokia and Al Russell, Head of Mobile Internet & Content Services at Vodafone. Stay tuned as we announce the other speakers on a rolling basis over the next few weeks.
