MEX Notes: Limiting multi-tasking while driving

  • Source article: Limiting multi-tasking while driving
  • MEX note: For some time now we’ve been tracking the trend for users to attempt more tasks simultaneously. Dividing attention between multiple digital touchpoints leads to different user experience requirements from situations where you can guarantee customer focus. This is particularly apparent in the automotive environment, where users attempting to interact with increasingly complex services on their mobile devices are placing themselves and others at risk by dividing their attention from driving. US operator Sprint is one of several companies now stepping up to offer services which detect when a vehicle is in motion and automatically direct calls to voicemail or send customised replies to text messages. An interesting example of the themes in MEX Pathway #2 (Research the implications of multiple displays and inputs within a single experience).
