There are a number of angles to MEX Pathway #2, entitled ‘Research the implications of multiple displays and inputs within a single experience‘.
On the one hand, it explores the user experience implications of designing for multiple touchpoints within a distributed architecture, such as tablet, TV and motion sensor functioning within the same experience flow.
However, the other aspect is to consider how user experience changes when there are multiple displays within a single device. Nintendo’s DS series is perhaps the best known example of this, but other devices are starting to arrive, such as Kyocera’s Echo.
Phonescoop has an extensive written and video review of the product – it is well worth a read. The reviewer finds Kyocera making numerous compromises and idiosyncrasies to achieve the dual screen format.
There will be further exploration of this topic at the next MEX in London on 4th – 5th May 2011.
