Zeljko Jeftic is the Project and Development Manager at ERTICO, the European organisation which combines public sector and private companies to develop next generation intelligent transport systems. His team is working on the Nomadic Device and Co-Operative Vehicle Infrastructure (CVIS) projects, developing guidelines and specifications for integrating mobile devices more closely with in-vehicle systems and looking at how internet connectivity through wireless networks can used to enhance the transport experience.
“Connecting mobile devices, vehicles into a ‘co-operative networked world’ will change the paradigm of travelling,” Jeftic told us. “I am very interested in bringing user experience thinking into the ongoing research projects on co-operative systems. Unfortunately, these, as many other R&D projects, tend to be ‘technology focused’ and forget it is the user experience which will sell the technologies in the end.”
Jeftic will respond to the MEX manifesto statement on embedded intelligence and how it will impact the mobile user experience. The manifesto statement is as follows:
“The world is gaining embedded intelligence. The mobile industry faces a fundamental user experience challenge to make handsets as effective as communicating with the environment as they are with other humans. We think the connection of millions of machines to wireless communication networks represents the most significant generational change since the introduction of packet data.”
Jeftic’s presentation will be followed by MEX breakout sessions, where delegates work together in small groups to respond to the issues raised by the speaker and present their findings back to the conference.
Zeljko Jeftic joins a wide range of industry leaders presenting at MEX on 2nd – 3rd May 2007. The full agenda and manifesto is available here.
